INTRODUCTION/ SUMMARY
December marked the end of the first quarter of FY16 project year. Being the last calendar month, great number of activities were carried out within the first three weeks before the festive season began. Activities that took place within the reporting month were planned to follow the organizational work plans. Being a voice in the Public Health Care sector, EFMC began the month by joining the world to commemorate the World HIV/AIDS day. Free HTC and other auxiliary services were organized for the community of Dutse Extension, while work continued in all supported facilities. Other activities includes FCT PMTCT/Paediatric ART TWG meetings, participation in National TB/HIV, orientation of the newly recruited staff at CFHI, collation of TB/HIV data, preparation/actual visits of facilities for the CDC/IHVN SIMS assessment, tracking of ‘lost-to-care’ children in EFMC ACTION Plus-up supported sites and feeder sites, strengthened the capacities of several health care workers, maintained the CD4 machine and facilitated the transfer of required commodities even during the Christmas break.

INTRODUCTION/ SUMMARY
February 2016 commenced with upgrade and activation of high yielding PHCs to ART site. Also, program review/management meetings were held. Supportive supervision and preparation of sites for CDC visit was carried out. EFMC attended the IHVN FCT Region project management meetings and a FACA initiated meeting to address community HTC by IPs. Supported sites were sensitized on the need to track all reactive clients tested in their facilities, referred for treatment, and to ensure complete referral.

in notifications in India. However, globally there was a 4.3 million gap4 between incident and notified cases, with India, Indonesia and Nigeria accounting for almost half of this gap. The crisis of MDR-TB detection and treatment continues.


In 2015, of the estimated 580 000 people newly eligible for MDR-TB treatment, only 125 000 (20%) were enrolled. Five countries accounted for more than 60% of the gap: India, China, the Russian Federation, Indonesia and Nigeria. Globally, the MDR-TB treatment success rate was 52% in 2013.
